Residencies

Picture
Weber Dance is thrilled to offer high quality educational programming to your community. Let us support the programs you have year round through an exceptional residency tailored to your needs. We have offered residencies with as few as three classes per day to as many as nine. Classes can focus on a single technique, or you can build a diverse array of experiences to suit your students' needs. Residencies can also culminate in a performance by the company that incorporates students from your commmunity. Please email Artistic Director Jody Weber for additional information or to plan a residency in your community: weberdance@rcn.com

For me as an adult dance student, one of the best aspects of the Weber Dance residency in Juneau was the composition workshop. At the Juneau Dance Unlimited Studio, Weber Dance's hosts for the residency, Jody Weber has a large, enthusiastic and talented following of student choreographers, some not yet even in their teens. This workshop is the chief outlet for their work and the chief external stimulus for their outstanding creativity. Jody Weber teaches composition with authority and with sensitivity. She is a master mentor for young and adult dancers alike. She is a dance teacher who can really reach teenagers and "tweens" and empower them to make works that are startling in their originality and honesty. My own work as a beginning choreographer owes much to Jody's good influences as well. I wish that the dance world could see what Jody's composition students created this year in Juneau, Alaska. There's nothing wrong with American dance today that a few bright kids working with a good teacher can't fix. The network of young choreographers that Weber Dance is mentoring in its residencies across the country may well represent a historically important component of the future of the art in their communities and perhaps even far more widely.
