This evening will include discussion and informal demonstrations by two or three company members demonstrating how spatial structure in choreographic design influences the audience’s relationship to theme. Cambridge Multicultural Arts Center
Performances October 13-15
Synchronicity & the Sacred Space is an investigation of human perception with particular emphasis on western versus non western ways of experiencing/interpreting the world. The piece incorporates the work of Jon Turk, a storyteller and adventurer who writes nonfiction about his expeditions by kayak. He is a world re-known traveler who has kayaked the arctic, Cape Horn and the Solomon Islands. He has explored Siberia by cross country skiing and re-connected indigenous coastal communities in Eastern Russia with those of the interior who still practice traditional reindeer herding. Jon’s work as an explorer is staggering and his stories from the Kamchatka Peninsula tell a provocative tale of both the tragedy of deep cultural loss and the beauty of alternative ways of perceiving/living in the world.
Through storytelling and dance, Synchronicity & the Sacred Space probes the strange landscape where scientific thought encounters the unknown, and human perception and reality are fluid partners in an enigmatic dance.

Choreographer Jody Weber and her company Weber Dance join the Bates College Modern Dance Company and Maine dancers Carol Dilley and Trish Harms in an informal program of current works and works in progress in the Plavin Dance Studios in Merrill Gymnasium, 141 Russell St. Admission for the performance, titled "Home & Away III," is free. Jody Weber offered a master class to Bates students in the afternoon. This is the third exchange between Jody Weber of Bridgewater State College and Dilley, director of Bates’ dance program. The pair began in 2007 with an exchange of student companies, each sharing a class and a combined performance in the home studio of the other. The second exchange was professional works by the non-student companies of the faculty members.
Through these exchanges, Dilley and Weber have developed a supportive network of performance and feedback opportunities. Students have the opportunity to perform in the professional working environment of their dance faculty and the faculty choreographers have the opportunity to meet new audiences and interact with peers.

Artistic Director, Dr. Jody Weber, and her company of six women shared insight into the structure and substance of her dances revealing the gorgeous expressive language of the moving body. The evening also included guest performances by vocalist, Jessica Newman, and choreography by Carol Dilley of Bates College. This performance offered an excellent opportunity to enjoy contemporary dance at its most intimate in this delightful evening of art. $25/$20 students, seniors and BDA members, ticket prices include refreshments.

Something is shifting imperceptibly under our feet! After a tumultuous beginning to the 21st century, Artistic Director Jody Weber wondered if we can envision a different future. In her premiere work, Shed, Weber asks what we imagine for both our lives and our collective future. Our answers revealed a deep desire for fundamental changes in the way we live and work together. The evening included two additional premieres: Sprout, a deliciously athletic quintet celebrating human resilience and Covalent Bond, exploring the idea of relationship at the cellular level. Of Bones & Marrow returns, questioning our relationship of our bodies and minds to the natural world, and the contemporary forces that impede our experience of connection.
