About Weber Dance
Weber Dance is a contemporary concert dance company that engages the public in the expressive power of movement through programs that enrich, inspire and educate audiences, helping them to develop a deeper of awareness of the language of human movement, the history of American dance, and the transformative power of live performance.
Live Performance: Weber Dance is a performing company that combines contemporary dance with installation art, original text, music and video to create live performance works suitable for small venues or, in some cases, site specific locations. The work is varied with a strong emphasis on the impact of scientific discovery, historical events, and cultural phenomena on individual’s lives. Weber Dance always strives for a humanistic approach to material and often incorporates text or ideas from the larger community. The choreography is deeply structural in nature, pursuing an understanding of the expressive capacity of the human body in motion. Weber Dance sets in motion the artist’s perception of individuality and relationship using form to reveal hidden meaning as well as perpetual mystery.
Education: The organization is deeply committed to educating new audiences in the language of contemporary dance and revealing the connections between metaphor and movement. Weber Dance will achieve this objective by offering courses in its home region on dance appreciation and history, establishing ongoing classes in contemporary dance technique for beginning students, and providing educational insight into the choreography at all performances. In service to the community these courses are offered in easily accessible public locations such as centers for dance, schools and libraries. The educational mission of Weber Dance anticipates that this work will enrich the community and educate new audiences in the art of contemporary dance. In addition to educational work within its region, Weber Dance actively seeks residencies at the national level that unite educational programming with artistic performance. Weber Dance is committed to working with students of all ages and economic backgrounds with a special interest in reaching communities with underserved populations.
Weber Dance is committed to offering high quality concert dance performances regionally and nationally each year. The organization offers two to four evenings of work in the New England area each year with additional performances and lecture demonstrations in schools and small venues. Since in 2008 Weber Dance has actively sought additional residencies combining education and performance at the national level and has successfully offered programming in Alaska, New York and Florida.
